Could your old mobile phone be worth a fortune?

If like us, your drawers are filled with old technology you never quite got around to throwing out, then you might be in luck... Depending on the make, model and condition of your retro mobile, you could be sitting on an unlikely fortune.

Some rarer phones are apparently now classed as antiques and could be worth up to £1,000 on sites like eBay... So, if you’re eyeing up the new iPhone, but aren’t so keen on the big price tag, your old handset might be able to help you out!

According to research by TalkMobile, the most valuable model that might be lurking in your home is the Motorola DynaTAC 8000x, one of which recently sold for £1k. Released way back in 1984, it was made famous by Michael Douglas' banker character in the film Wall Street.

Other popular models include the Nokia Mobira Senator, also released in the '80s, which recently sold for £800.

But don't worry if you never owned these early models because even some more ubiquitous phones, including the Nokia 3310 that was EVERYWHERE in the early Noughties, could leave you with a decent return. They can sell for between £10 and £55, according to the list.

Well, that's better than nothing!

And, even more surprisingly, some more recent models could be worth a tidy amount, including the iPhone 2G, which could sell for up to £1,000.

Here are the top 10 most valuable and what they could be worth, according to TalkMobile:

  1. Motorola DynaTAC 8000x (£1,000)

  2. Nokia 3310 (£10 - £55)

  3. First ever Nokia Mobira Talkman (£900)

  4. Apple iPhone 2G (£150 - £1,000)

  5. Motorola StarTAC (£30 - £100)

  6. Motorola Razr V3 (£15 - £60)

  7. Sony Ericsson W880i (£30 - £50)

  8. Nokia N95 (£60 - £90)

  9. HTC One (£40 - £50)

  10. Nokia 9000 Communicator (£20 - £50)

We don't know about you but we're off to rummage through that ‘old technology’ drawer.
