Delays for Apple iPhone 12

We've heard all kinds of rumours about how delayed or not-delayed the iPhone 12 might be, and finally we have an answer from Apple itself. The company said the phone is coming soon as anticipated – but it'll be a few weeks later than the usual September date. That's bad news for anyone who was hoping the mighty Apple wouldn't be impacted by coronavirus, but good news for people who thought the rumoured November date might be true.

Luca Maestri, Apple CFO, confirmed the news, saying:

"As you know, last year we started selling new iPhones in late September.

This year, we project supply to be available a few weeks later."

The iPhone 12 delay, confirmed during Apple's latest earnings call, came at the same time the company reported positive news for Q3 2020. Despite the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, iPhone sales were up 2% year-over-year, largely attributed to the iPhone SE 2020. Just like with this period, however, Apple cautioned that the atypical conditions meant Apple once again won't put an earnings target on Q4 2020. The uncertainty also likely contributed to Apple's admission that the iPhone 12 will likely be delayed. During the earnings call, the company confirmed that iPad and Mac sales had double-digit growth despite supply restrictions caused by the impact of the coronavirus.

iPhone 12 delayed, but worth the wait?

Apple's new iPhone is closer than ever as both the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro are expected to land this year.

What's set to change with the new iPhone? First up, you should expect four members of the iPhone 12 family, which will include the base handset as well as an iPhone 12 Max, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. That's similar to the iPhone 11 series, but includes a new handset line in there called the iPhone 12 Max. That's likely to be a larger phone that's a similar size to the iPhone 12 Pro Max, but it won't feature such top-end specs. Other leaks and rumors suggest there will be the debut of 5G technology on an iPhone and it may even see the biggest design change since the company adopted the notch in 2017.
