Nokia return to the world of smartphones with the launch of the Nokia 6

Nokia 6

Nokia pulled out of the smartphone game some time ago, but since then the rights to the name have been transferred to a company called HMD Global, who has begun designing and manufacturing a range of phones under the Nokia brand.

The first of these smartphones has just been announced as the Nokia 6. It looks like excellent value, but unfortunaterly for us it's expected on only be available in the Chinese market.

Unusually for a mid-range mobile, the Nokia 6 will sport a seamless aluminium body carved from a single block. It then goes through a two stage anodising process, giving it a classy look found only on the most expensive smartphones. The internals are pretty good too, with a octa-core processor, 4GB of RAM and a 5.5 inch 1080p screen that has a curved 2.5D Gorilla Glass sheet on top. Despite these great specs, it's going to retail in China for just 1,699 CNY, or around £200.

So what does this mean for the UK market? Well if the Nokia 6 is successful in China (and we see no reason why it shouldn't be), we'd expect HMD Global to launch a Nokia device in the UK fairly soon. The Nokia brand is legendary here, despite having struggled to compete with the likes of Samsung and Apple, and at the right price the new Nokia devices to be a compelling option.

We'll be keeping an eye out for a UK launch in the coming months, and you can be sure that as soon as Nokia do bring a new phone to the UK we'll be offering a great value mobile phone insurance policy to protect it.
