Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge

We've already reported that the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge would be revealed on February 21st, but official press images have already leaked onto the internet. We can also confirm that the S7 will go on sale March 11th, so there really isn't long to wait before you can get your hands on the next Galaxy flagship.

VentureBeat have released a number of images and detailed specifications for the new devices, which we've summarised below.

Design

Galaxy S7 front

Both the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge look pretty similar to the S6 before them, but there are a few key differences. Firstly, while the Galaxy S6 keeps the same 5.1 inch 1440p display, the Edge gets a larger 5.5 inch screen. They'll both include IP67 dust and water resistance too, making them far more durable.

Battery life and processor

Both models will sport larger batteries so hopefully that will translate to longer operating times. The S7 has a 3000mAh battery, and the S7 Edge has a 3600mAh battery. There'll either be a Exynos 8890 or Snapdragon 820 processor depending on the region you're in, and there'll be 4GB of RAM inside. Both devices will come with different storage options including 32GB and 64GB, and we expect there will also be a micro SD slot for expanding that storage.

Camera

The cameras will have 12MP sensors (4MP less than on the Galaxy S6 before it). This means that in ideal light conditions the photo quality might not be quite so good, but the new f/1.7 lens should improve low light performance, and what's more it won't protrude from the case and sits flush with the back of the phone.

The verdict

We're looking forward to seeing the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge launch properly later this month, and expect that Samsung will reveal a whole host of interesting features that the new hardware can take advantage of. It's going to be a great upgrade over the Samsung Galaxy S5 if you're on a 24-month contract, or even the S6 if you're feeling flush and aren't tied into a two year deal. If you do buy one in march then make sure that you check out our Galaxy S7 insurance and Galaxy S7 Edge insurance policies, to ensure that you keep your expensive new mobile phone covered.
