Business Laptop Insurance
Cover for company laptops and MacBooks wherever your team works, home, client site, or overseas.
The gap most businesses don't find until they claim
Since hybrid working became normal, the laptops a business owns spend most of their life
somewhere the business doesn’t control. That creates three specific problems.
Your office contents policy covers the premises. Once the laptop is in a rucksack on the
Northern Line, most policies either won’t cover or respond with a high excess.
Your employee’s home insurance excludes business use. They may assume their contents cover picks it up at home but almost universally, it doesn’t.
Commercial “all risks” cover exists, but it’s built for a different job. It’s an add-on to a package policy, priced across your whole risk profile, with an excess sized for larger losses. Fine for a £15,000 claim. Not much use for a £900 MacBook Air with a cracked screen.
tinhat™ covers the device itself, wherever it is, with excess starting at just £50.
Who is this cover for
- Hybrid and remote teams — laptops that live at employees' homes, outside your premises cover
- Field and client-facing staff — consultants, surveyors, engineers, account managers
- Creative and technical teams — high-value MacBooks and mobile workstations
- Small businesses without a package policy — where there's no commercial contents cover at all

The forced-entry exclusion matters most for field teams a phone left in a locked van isn’t covered unless the vehicle was visibly broken into. Worth putting in your staff device policy. Full terms are here.
Business FAQs
Yes — MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, alongside Windows laptops from the major manufacturers.
Cover is on the device, so a change of user doesn’t affect the policy. Let us know if the correspondence contact changes.
Yes. Cover follows the device rather than the location, which is the main reason businesses take this out alongside a premises policy.
No, unfortunately the user needs to be a UK resident in order to insure your device with tinhat.
In most cases the policy will get immediately approved and we will email your policy documents to you straight away. At this point your will be insured.

Devices need to be under 36 months old at the point cover starts. Worth timing cover to your refresh cycle.
It depends on your policy’s excess and whether it extends to equipment off the premises. Check both. If the excess is £500 or more, or cover stops at the office door, a dedicated device policy is usually the cheaper way to handle small, frequent claims.
No, you don’t have to insure your device straight away – as long as it was bought in the last 36 months, you can take out a policy with us.
If you pay for your policy monthly then it is a monthly rolling contract and will renew automatically each month until you contact us to cancel. If you pay for your policy annually then it is an annual contract that will renew each year unless you contact us to cancel. For more information and for details of how to opt out of autorenewal on your annual policy, please click here.
One of the simplest ways to pay is by monthly Direct Debit. If you select that option then we will set up a recurring monthly payment for you using the bank details provided.
Alternatively you can pay annually by debit or credit card. Although you’re paying a year upfront, you can still cancel your policy at any time and will get a pro-rata refund for any remaining months on your policy, provided that you haven’t made a claim.
The main exclusions on our policies are:
* Leaving your device unattended when it’s away from your home or business
* Theft from a vehicle or premises where there is no visible sign of forced entry
* Not reporting the theft/loss within 48 hours of discovery to the police and not reporting the theft/loss to the Service Provider within 24 hours of discovery to stop the line and blacklist the handset

If you pay your premium on a monthly basis your policy will be cancelled at the next monthly anniversary of the date your policy commenced. There will be no refund of premium due as the premium paid will have only been in respect of the cover already received.
If you pay your iPhone insurance premium annually and providing no claim has been made under the policy you will receive a proportionate refund of premium based on the unused period of cover under the policy. Policy cover will cease from the date we receive your cancellation instructions or from a later date at your request.
