Tinhat insurance student discount
Students get 10% off at Tinhat using the code: student8102
What's covered?
Our student 10% student discount (please note, you must be able to produce a valid NUS card to qualify for the discount) is available on all our mobile phone and gadget insurance - including iPhone, Samsung, HTC, and Sony. The premium you pay depends on the value of your phone, so our policies can start from as little as £4.49 a month (or £49.39 annually). Our policies cover you against:
Accidental damage (including liquid damage)
Covers accidentally cracked screens, dropping your phone in the toilet, and any other damage that prevents the phone from functioning normally. Accidental damage does not cover general wear and tear or purely cosmetic damage.
Mechanical breakdown
Covers you for repairs and replacements to your phone if it suddenly stops working outside the manufacturer's warranty. By renewing your policy with us you can continue to cover your gadget for a further 5 years.
Unlimited use Worldwide
This policy keeps you covered anywhere in the world for as long as you need. Most insurers limit your allowed trip length.
Theft
Covers you for any damage or loss resulting from your phone being stolen, as long as it is in your possession or stored in a secure place out of sight.
Unauthorised calls
If your phone is lost or stolen we will cover up to £10,000 of unauthorised calls.
Accessories cover
We'll replace any accessories (up to £150) if they are damaged, stolen or lost at the same time as your mobile phone.
Accidental loss
Covers you for the replacement of your phone if you accidentally lose it.

Additional Benefits
At Tinhat we offer some of the cheapest mobile insurance in the UK, but pride ourselves on offering policies that are fit for purpose. That's why, on top of comprehensive coverage, we offer:

At Tinhat, if you make a claim your excess will be £50 for phones valued up to £400, £75 for phones up to £750 and £100 for phones valued at £751 or more. It's the same for all types of claim.

Unlike many insurance policies your phone is also covered while being used by immediate family, with no restrictions on their age. This also means that if you want to insure your child's mobile phone you can do so in your name.

Some insurers impose limits on the number of claims you can make, or have different limits for accidental damage and loss claims. At Tinhat there is no limit to the number of claims that you can make.

If your phone is less than 60 days old, we'll cover it from the date that you purchase your policy. So if you buy your mobile phone insurance today, you can get peace of mind straight away.
Gadgets at university
It's well documented that your years at university can be some of the best of your life, but sometimes they're not so kind to your phones and gadget:

"Foam got the better of my phone"
"I went to a foam party during freshers week and my phone got soaked, I only realised that my phone was broken when I was walking home " - James, Notingham Trent University

"I took a trip with my laptop"
"I was really late for a lecture and had to sneak in half way through, only I tripped going up the stairs. Not only was an entire lecture theatre staring at me, I fell onto my brand new laptop" - Emily, Brunel University

"Someone checked my phone out of the libary"
"I left my phone on a desk in the library, it was gone when I went back to get it. I was only gone for 2 minutes" - Lisa, Loughborough University
Key exclusions
All mobile phone insurance policies contain exclusions, and Tinhat is no different. That said, we think ours are some of the fairest and simplest to understand and we're keen to make sure that you're aware of them before purchasing:
Mobile phone exclusions
Second hand phones - unfortunately we can't cover any second hand phones. That includes second hand phones bought from private individuals and also second hand goods stores like CeX.
Phones bought more than 12 months - if you bought your gadget more than 12 months ago you won't be able to insure it with Tinhat.
Refurbished phones that were bought without 12-month warranty - we can't insure refurbished phones that were bought without at least a 12-month warranty.
Claims for incidents within the first 14 days of taking out your policy (unless you phone is less than 60 days) - this is to help us prevent fraudulent claims, which in turn allows us to provide affordable insurance to our genuine customers.
Accidental damage exclusions
Cosmetic Damage - our insurance policies don't cover things like scratches, stains or minor chips to the body of your phone. We can repair your phone if it's broken, but we can't restore it to new condition.
Theft Exclusions
Theft from inside commercial vehicles - so if you're a taxi driver, this insurance won't cover you for theft while you're using your vehicle.
Theft from an unattended personal vehicle - unless your phone is out of view in a closed compartment and the vehicle is locked.
Theft in a public place where your phone is left unattended - for example, if you leave your phone on a pub table and it's stolen while you go to buy a drink. Our insurance still requires you to take reasonable precautions to protect your phone.
